Our Story
Glen Mere Winery

The name Glen Mere is a blending of two of our favorite places. Glen Rock, the location of the winery, is a lovely town in south central Pennsylvania, which is characterized by deep green forests and picturesque farms. Eagle's Mere is a resort town in northeast Pennsylvania where we have spent many wonderful vacations. The two words together, Glen Mere, mean a body of water surrounded by woods, which describes the pond at Glen Mere Winery perfectly.

Considering where we both came from, it is amazing that we are here. Paul was born in Long Island, New York and moved to Harrisburg, where he grew up. Margo was born and raised in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. We met in Indiana, Pennsylvania and after many years of schooling and training for professional careers, we decided to get back to basics and bought a 50-acre farm. Paul continues to work as a radiologist in the area. Margo gave up her career as a psychologist to devote her energies to the winery and to raising our two children, Justin and Julia. The decision to plant a vineyard on the land was influenced by a home-winemaking hobby, a love for wine, and a fateful trip to Napa and Sonoma Valleys. It was there that the lure of the vineyard left us with a deep desire to make wine from our own grapes and to share our wines with others.

We believe the vineyard and winery have enriched our lives tremendously. The processes of growing grapes and making wine are both simple and complex. The simplicity of turning sunlight into wine is magical. It appealed to our desire to create something beautiful. It also involved a great deal of learning and hard work. We had to study farming, mechanics, chemistry and the artistry of winemaking. The payoff has been tremendous. We have met many wonderful people through the winery and the harvest festivals we have each fall. We have also reconnected with friends and neighbors who help us pick grapes and celebrate the harvest. We are confident that we will continue to expand our group of "Pickers" and wine lovers and hope to have many successful harvests in the future.
